Sony Pictures Entertainment has released a special video featuring director Zack Kreger and lead actor Austin Abrams discussing the main character, “Brian,” from the upcoming film *Resident Evil*, scheduled for release on October 9, 2026.

The protagonist is a “young man who hasn’t quite grown up”

This live-action film is directed by Zack Kreger, known for films such as “Barbarian” and “WEAPONS,” who openly identifies as a fan of the original video game series. In a previously released special video, the director stated that he has faithfully recreated the spirit and atmosphere of the original work.

The story’s protagonist is “Brian,” an ordinary delivery man. He heads to Raccoon City to deliver “a certain medical supply” and finds himself caught up in “the most terrifying and unlucky night in human history.”

While Mr. Abrams describes Brian as “a young man who hasn’t quite grown up,” Director Kreger also asserts, “He can’t handle a gun, and he can’t fight.” In the released footage, we see a scene where he tries to shoot a lock blocking his path with a gun but ends up breaking it off instead. The director revealed that the film’s appeal lies precisely in the fact that such an ordinary man is the one facing this situation.

In the 15-second Japanese-dubbed trailer released alongside it, the series’ familiar, deep, eerie voiceover cheerfully declares, “Twice the fear, twice the danger—twice-twice Bio!”On the other hand, Director Kreger also revealed that he significantly cut the jokes from the final film following test screenings, suggesting that the horror awaiting audiences will be in stark contrast to the trailer’s lighthearted tone.

The movie “Resident Evil” is scheduled for release on October 9, 2026.
