"lily's world XD," a psychological horror game where players uncover secrets from a girl's laptop, has gotten off to a "very well-received" start

Kwalee has released the PC psychological horror game "lily's world XD" onSteam.

Realistic atmosphere created using photos of the developer—story and puzzles also well-received

Created by indie developer Sondering Emily, this psychological horror game involves investigating a young girl’s laptop. It features a UI reminiscent of early 2000s PCs, and the game progresses as the player explores the desktop screen. Through the computer, players unravel the story of Lily’s life.

The announcement trailer reveals not only chat screens and text-based diary entries but also cryptic messages, while the store page hints at a mysterious force attempting to thwart the player’s actions.

Additionally, Sondering Emily has discussed the game’s development background. Not only does she use photos of herself as a teenager in the game, but to recreate the feel of the internet from that era, she has also taken inspiration from her “actual old blog”—copying text from it to recreate the cringeworthy blog posts that haunt her as an adult—and crafted awkward, excessive ads that are just just enough to be over-the-top.

Released on September 17, 2026, the game had a “Very Positive” rating on Steam as of the 19th of the same month, with 98% of 282 reviews being positive. Reviews have praised the game’s realistic atmosphere, engaging story, and puzzle elements.

*Lily’s World XD* is available on Steam. It’s currently on sale for 1,280 yen—a 20% discount—through September 25.
