RGG Studio broadcast the “TGS 2026 Special Opening Night Live” for *STRANGER THAN HEAVEN*.
Footage from the opening sequence of *STRANGER THAN HEAVEN* was revealed!
This title is a new action-adventure game from RGG Studio, known for the *Yakuza* series. Players can experience the story of Shin Daito, who lived a turbulent life spanning five eras and five cities from 1915 to 1965.
During the broadcast, a scene from the beginning of the game—including a tutorial that starts seamlessly from the title screen—was unveiled.The broadcast also spotlighted three of the five settings—"Fukuoka/Kokura," "Hiroshima/Kure," and "Osaka/Minami"—introducing activities like menko and beigo-ma, as well as cityscapes that reflect the historical context of each era.
In the latter half of the broadcast, there was also an explanation of “Showbiz,” a key element in the game. It appears to be a gameplay mode where players aim to create shows that excite the audience by arranging songs and selecting performers and stage directions, and this was introduced alongside actual gameplay footage.
Furthermore, footage was shown of the demo version—scheduled to be exhibited at “Tokyo Game Show 2026”—being played live. The demo set to be exhibited has reportedly been updated from the version previously shown at overseas events. It was revealed that players can now shop in stores, enemy health has been adjusted, and new weapons are available.
Additionally, the full release will include support features for players who find the action elements particularly challenging. Furthermore, the game’s theme song, which was unveiled in the first trailer, is scheduled for release later this year.
*STRANGER THAN HEAVEN* is scheduled for release on January 15, 2027, forPS5,Xbox Series X|S, and Windows (Steam,Microsoft Store). It will be available on Game Pass from the day of release.
