Regarding rumors that Xbox Game Pass will be restructured in 2027, the international media outletWindows Centralreported on September 17, 2026, that based on its own investigation, “the rumors are nothing more than speculation and conjecture.”
Will we never know the truth behind the Game Pass restructuring rumors until 2027?

Various rumors about Game Pass have been circulating recently—such as “an ad-supported plan will be introduced” and “players will no longer be able to play new games on Day One”—but international journalist Paul Tassi has reported that an Xbox spokesperson has denied these rumors.
The international media outletWindows Centralfollowed up on this report with its own investigation and reported that “reliable sources have confirmed the rumored changes are nothing more than ‘speculation and conjecture.’”
However, the outlet pointed out that “it is an open secret that Microsoft is actively exploring ‘changes’ to Game Pass.”Furthermore, while prefacing its remarks by stating that this is purely speculation and analysis, the outlet expressed the view that there is a possibility that major franchise titles could be excluded from Day One releases even on the top-tier plan, or shifted to higher-priced plans or treated as add-on bundles (optional extras).
Ultimately, the Windows Central article concluded by stating that we will have to wait until 2027 to find out whether these rumors are true or false.
Even in XBOX Wire Japan’s announcement article regarding the Tokyo Game Show 2026, the section on Game Pass merely stated that “Minecraft Dungeons II will be available to play on Game Pass from day one,” and it does not appear that any announcements regarding the Game Pass service will be made at TGS 2026.
