Hideo Kojima, director at Kojima Productions, shared the latest updates on the partnership with Xbox and revealed the status of two new IPs currently in development.
Kojima Productions’ 10th Anniversary
Kojima Productions, established as an independent studio in late 2015, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Director Kojima reportedly visited the Xbox offices in Redmond earlier this year to discuss the future of games and digital entertainment with Mr. Asha.
‘OD’ Is Progressing Smoothly
He also mentioned two exciting new IPs currently being developed in collaboration with Xbox. Regarding *OD*, he reported that development is progressing smoothly. Performance capture and ADR recording, which had been suspended during the SAG strike, resumed this year, and production is proceeding on schedule.
Cast members including Sofia Lillis and Hunter Schafer have delivered “intense and brilliant performances,” and Director Kojima commented, “I can’t wait to show this to everyone.”He described *OD* as “a completely new kind of game that tests the threshold of fear,” adding that the project is steadily taking shape through continuous experimentation and iteration.
Bill Skarsgård to Star in *PHYSINT*
Next, regarding *PHYSINT*, which will be published by Xbox, Director Kojima described the title as “the culmination of a career spanning over 40 years and a project that redefines ‘action-espionage’ without being bound by existing genres in digital entertainment.”
Following the announcements last year of Charlie Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe, the lead character—who will serve as the player character—has finally been revealed. The role will be played by Bill Skarsgård. Director Kojima stated, “We have been longtime fans of each other’s work and decided to embark on this new adventure together.”
Regarding the costume fittings, scans, and camera tests conducted with Bill and Charlie earlier this year, Director Kojima commented, “They gave me great confidence in the direction of the project. The vision for the final form has become much clearer.” The new teaser visuals released this time reportedly use photos of the two taken by Director Kojima himself during those sessions.
Casting, talent scanning, and collaborations with external creators are also underway, and the studio states that exciting cast announcements will continue in the future.
Director Kojima concluded by saying, “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all players, fans, and community members. I would also like to thank our partners at Xbox for believing in our vision and walking this path toward the future with us,” and urged everyone to look forward to future announcements.
