It’s that time of year again—the “Tokyo Game Show 2026” (hereinafter: TGS)! Until last year, the event ran for four days, combining business and public days, but this year it will run for a full five days.

TGS celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026, and the venue will feature special events unique to this anniversary year, such as a retrospective on its 30-year history and talk sessions delving into popular titles marking their 30th anniversaries.

Furthermore, the “30th Anniversary Ticket,” released to commemorate the milestone, comes with no less than six types of commemorative medals made of pure gold (24K)! And the price? 3.3 million yen (tax included). For a commemorative ticket at a gaming event, this is just way too extravagant…!

By the way, since I’m attending as part of the media, I don’t actually need a ticket—but if the editorial department had secured an Anniversary Ticket for me… I’d be so overwhelmed with joy that it would actually be a little scary.

◆ Explore Dungeons with a Bunch of Daredevils! “METRO QUESTER ZERO”

Today I’m introducing “METRO QUESTER ZERO,” a PC title developed by Thousand Games and published by Kemco!!

Set in a post-apocalyptic future, this hack-and-slash dungeon RPG lets you gather a party and explore dungeons. It’s the latest entry in the ‘METRO QUESTER’ series, where you can enjoy a unique world and challenging combat.

"METRO QUESTER ZERO"

First, you’ll choose your starting party. You can select from options like an attack-specialized party, a balanced offense-and-defense party, or a party recommended for exploration newbies.

I’ve played every previous game in the series, and my favorite party was the “Men’s Five,” a group of muscle-bound tough guys. I love their aggressive attitude—it’s like they’re saying, “Healers? We don’t need ’em! We’ve got our muscle-bound bodies!”

I’m happy to say the “Men’s Five” is still going strong in this game. Have you guys been doing well?

The “Men’s Five”

The field map features graphics with a nostalgic vibe. You consume fuel with every square you walk; once your fuel runs out, you’re forced to return to base, and that day’s exploration ends. As you gather food and resources, you explore uncharted territory to fill in the map, and based on the routes you’ve cleared, you’ll be able to venture even farther the next day.

However, exploration isn’t entirely safe and secure. Enemies roam the field, and contact with them triggers a battle.

Exploring the Field Map

Battles are turn-based and proceed as you input actions for each character. Since some actions consume resources, managing your resources is of the utmost importance.

Oh, and by the way, my “Men’s Five” team of daredevils doesn’t have a healer. So, how does a party made up entirely of frontline fighters manage to battle…?

Turn-Based Battles

Characters with high defense draw aggro and act as decoys, and while they’re getting beaten to a pulp, their allies wipe out the enemies! Conquer the underworld with a tough-as-nails strategy befitting a bunch of daredevils…!

“METRO QUESTER ZERO” is scheduled for release on PC (Steam), PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and in early spring 2027!

In this article, we introduced a hardcore dungeon RPG featuring nostalgic graphics that will bring back fond memories. Going forward, we plan to feature games across a wide range of genres—from suspense and classic RPGs to cute titles and even some offbeat ones. Stay tuned!
