On September 16, SIE announced the “PlayStation PULSE Wireless Headset” and the “PULSE Edge Wireless Headset,” a new lineup of audio products for the PS5.
Precise sound localization with planar magnetic drivers
The “PULSE Elite Wireless Headset,” released in 2024, was the first headset to feature planar magnetic drivers and PlayStation Link connectivity, and it was highly praised for its sound accuracy and clarity.
The two new models feature custom-designed planar magnetic drivers—the same type used in professional audio equipment—and incorporate larger drivers than previous models. While maintaining the clear sound that made the PULSE Elite so popular, they deliver richer, deeper bass.A key feature is the ability to accurately pinpoint the position and direction of sounds, which reportedly makes it easier to determine the direction of footsteps and reloading sounds in competitive FPS games.

Both headsets support PlayStation Link, enabling a lossless, ultra-low-latency audio connection. You can seamlessly switch connections between compatible devices such as PS5, PlayStation Portal Remote Player, PC, and Mac, and can also connect to compatible Bluetooth devices simultaneously. The built-in microphone features AI-powered noise rejection, reducing ambient noise to deliver crystal-clear voice chat.
The design has also been refreshed; the ear cups can be rotated to lie flat for easy portability, and the headset is available in two colors: White and Midnight Black.
Designed for users seeking a more premium audio experience, the PULSE Edge features eight magnets per driver (twice as many as the PlayStation PULSE), delivering even richer, deeper bass.
In addition to active noise cancellation, it comes with a detachable boom microphone; when removed, the built-in microphone is used instead. It reportedly features a carrying case that ensures a comfortable fit and protects the headset, as well as audio and microphone jacks and a function to adjust the balance between game audio and chat audio on the PS5.
