On September 18, Kogado Studio officially launched the website for its new visual novel, *Sugar Lies*, and released the opening theme song “True or Lies,” performed by the two heroines, along with the opening video.
The latest information was unveiled during the official KONAMI YouTube livestream for the Tokyo Game Show 2026, which took place from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM that same day, and the various pieces of content were released immediately following the conclusion of the broadcast. The official website also features sample voice clips and event CGs.
A summer story woven by a young man who hates lies and a girl who tells them
This title is a new release from “S:OWLS,” a team at Kogado Studio known for *To the Mirror Flower That Will Eventually Fade*, and is categorized as a “Youth Adventure Game That Begins with a Lie.” It’s a short visual novel centered on the theme of “lies,” depicting a boy-meets-girl story set over the course of one summer.
The protagonist is Nobuto Nagatsuki, a freshman in college who detests lies. He has a unique physical condition where he becomes physically ill—and sometimes even vomits—when he senses others’ “acting” or “lies.” As evidenced by the line, “That’s why I thought you were disgusting the moment I saw you,” he is a person who never tells (or cannot tell) a single lie.
He encounters Yumei Sakurabi (voiced by Ikumi Hasegawa), a girl who plays the role of her “ideal self” more skillfully than anyone else.The story follows the summer spent by Nobuto—who realizes the moment he sees her that “this is the worst first encounter imaginable”—and Yumei, who once made a name for herself as a child acting prodigy and was raised under a strict, elite education by her actor father.
The other heroine, Seito Yukihira (voiced by Hikaru Iida), is a childhood friend who’s always hanging out at Nobuto’s house and does things entirely on her own terms. She’s been active as a stage actress since childhood and is a hardcore otaku with a penchant for “intellectual works”—a true character in her own right.A line of hers has also been revealed: “What do you think? That was quite a ‘profound’ situation, wasn’t it?”
The theme song, “True or Lies,” is performed by Ikumi Hasegawa (voicing Yumei) and Hikaru Iida (voicing Myojo). The music was composed by Raito.
A playable demo of the prologue is available at TGS 2026
At the Tokyo Game Show 2026, you can play a demo of the prologue scenario for *Sugar Lies* at the Konami Digital Entertainment booth. The event runs from Thursday, September 17, to Monday, September 21, with September 17 and 18 designated as Business Days.
In addition, special alternate illustrations commemorating the TGS 2026 exhibition are now available. You can view the heroines in a slightly different light than usual via a special link on Team “S:OWLS”’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.
"Sugar Lies" is scheduled for release on PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch.The Steam version is scheduled for release in late 2026, and the Nintendo Switch version in spring 2027. The price is 2,860 yen for the Steam and Switch digital versions, and 4,000 yen for the Switch physical version.
