The “Tokyo Game Show 2026” is being held at Makuhari Messe from September 17 to 21, 2026.

This event brings together a wide variety of games, from highly anticipated new releases to promising titles yet to be discovered. In this article, we’ll introduce the latest entry in the *Atelier* series, *Atelier Karia: The Kingdom of Night and the Signposts of Memories*, from the Koei Tecmo Games booth, including our hands-on experience at the event.

Karia-chan is just too cute!

The first thing I thought when I started playing was just how cute “Karia” is. It goes without saying that the heroines of the *Atelier* series are cute, but her design is especially charming.

She comes across as serious and earnest. She speaks politely and seems a bit high-strung. But Karia has one major quirk, and that is…

She puts absolutely everything in her mouth and eats it.

Karia is a character who embodies the game’s central concept of “eating,” and true to that concept, she’s portrayed as a big eater. The fact that almost every item you encounter along the way has an “eat” action available really highlights just how outrageous she is.

Also, since she sometimes worries along the way, saying things like “I ate too much~,” she gives off a unique vibe—it’s hard to say whether she’s the cool type or the airheaded type—making her character design truly stand out from previous heroines. She’s cute.

Incidentally, the game explains that her appearance “changes” as she eats things she finds lying around.

This refers to “that feature” that became a hot topic because she gets curvier and curvier—and I’m really curious to see exactly what her appearance will end up looking like…

A Combat System Where Eating Changes Your Outfit

As for Karia-chan, she doesn’t just eat items while exploring. Believe it or not, she can also eat items during battle, and there’s a separate command for this distinct from using regular items.

Crucially, depending on the attributes of the item she eats, her outfit changes, and her combat style shifts significantly as well. In addition to flashy actions, her performance varies greatly depending on which item she eats, greatly expanding the variety of battles.

Furthermore, the core battle system is generally action-oriented, and combined with the beautiful graphics, I was able to enjoy incredibly exhilarating battles.

Since you can freely control party members other than the protagonist, the gameplay feels quite similar to traditional action RPGs.

From exploration to combat, the “eating” element was a prominent feature throughout this playthrough. I’m really looking forward to watching Karia get fatter and fatter… and grow stronger—it’s incredibly appealing.

It’s a highly anticipated title—will this new entry in the “Atelier” series once again win over a massive fan base?

*Atelier Karia: The Kingdom of Night and the Signposts of Memories* is scheduled for release on February 25, 2027.
