In a critical post by a South Korean lawmaker directed at President Lee Jae-myung, the latest installment in the series, *Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4*, which had just been released on October 23, was unexpectedly brought up.
After playing *CoD:MW4*
Ahn Cheol-soo, a lawmaker from the South Korean opposition party “People Power Party,” posted the following on Facebook:
President Lee defended North Korea by stating, “Nuclear weapons are North Korea’s last line of defense.” The pro-North Korean president’s delusions, which are out of touch with reality, are truly dangerous. If you don’t understand the danger of North Korea’s provocations, try playing the game *Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4*. If your fingers are too busy with X (formerly Twitter), simply watching gameplay footage should be enough to teach you just how much catastrophic damage President Lee’s naive judgment could inflict on the Republic of Korea.
Mr. Ahn Cheol-soo criticized the president for “being out of touch with reality” and “being too lenient toward North Korea.” He sarcastically suggested that simply watching gameplay footage would be enough to understand North Korea’s military threat and the danger of war.

The campaign mode of *Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4* depicts a fictional “Second Korean War” breaking out on the Korean Peninsula—a rather sensitive subject where the story unfolds by focusing on characters from both the South Korean and North Korean sides. There are even scenes where you can shoot civilians, to the extent that the Japanese version had to censor certain depictions.
Additionally, according to a report by the South Korean media outlet JoongAng Ilbo, a debate appears to be brewing in South Korea over the game’s depiction of North Korean forces. While some have criticized depictions such as the execution of civilians by North Korean forces, others have voiced counterarguments to these criticisms, and the game’s content has become entangled in South Korea’s political and social controversies.

*Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4* is now available for PC (Steam, Battle.net, Microsoft Store), PS5, XBOX Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
