"Save Mass Effect": Fans Take Action Following the Cancellation of a New Game Due to BioWare's Closure. A Billboard Is Displayed in New York's Times Square, and a Composer Releases a Draft of the Game's Soundtrack.

BioWare, the development studio known for *Dragon Age*, *ANTHEM*, and *Mass Effect*, recently announced its closure—a decision that was met with widespread regret. Amid this, a campaign launched by fans of the *Mass Effect* series is generating a lot of buzz.

It all started with EA’s recent announcement that it would be closing the game development studio BioWare. As a result, the next installment in the “Mass Effect” series, which was reportedly in development, has also been canceled.

In response, fans of the series have taken action. Under the slogan #SaveMassEffect, they launched a petition drive, which has gathered over 240,000 signatures to date.

Furthermore, to accelerate the campaign, they’ve placed an advertisement in New York’s Times Square, among other active efforts (see the post at the beginning of this article).

Furthermore, it appears that a petition calling for a sequel to *Destiny 2*—which began around May 2026—has joined forces with this campaign, and illustrations commemorating the unity of both communities have been released.

Additionally, composer Austin Winterley, known for his work on *Journey* and *ABZÛ*, has released a demo track he was creating for a new *Mass Effect* game.

Comment from Austin Winterley in the video

Working on *Mass Effect 5* has been the “white whale”—the lifelong dream—I’ve pursued throughout my career, and there is no project more dreamlike than this. Learning alongside all of you that EA had decided not only to cancel the project but to shut down BioWare entirely left me with a profound sense of loss. It’s incredibly painful to watch as dear friends lose their jobs and this beloved franchise seems to have vanished forever.

While sharing these thoughts, he also commented, “I’d like to thank everyone at BioWare and EA’s music department for giving me the opportunity to dream within your sandbox (the game world).”
