"Clair Obscur: Expedition 33," the 2025 Game of the Year winner, is selling well even after being added to Game Pass on its first day—with estimated cumulative sales of 8.7 million copies and revenue of approximately 57.4 billion yen.

Rhys Elliott of market research firm Alinea Analytics published an article summarizing sales trends for past Game of the Year winners at The Game Awards.

'Clair Obscur: Expedition 33' Sees Strong Standalone Sales; 4.3 Million Players on Game Pass

These figures were presented in an article published by Elliott, which reviews the sales trends of past Game of the Year winners at The Game Awards. These are estimates by Alinea Analytics, not official announcements from developers or publishers.

According to the firm, the 2025 winner, *Clair Obscur: Expedition 33*, has sold a cumulative total of 8.7 million copies and generated $366 million (approximately 57.47 billion yen) in revenue.By platform, Steam accounted for 58.8%, PS5 for 35.7%, and Xbox (console and PC versions via the Microsoft Store) for 5.5%.

Elliott cited the fact that the game was available on Game Pass from day one as the reason for the low sales ratio on Xbox. A total of 4.3 million people played the game through this service across both console and PC platforms. Even after the start of 2026, just under 700,000 players continued to play using the subscription service.

While the game has reached a large audience through Game Pass, it has also amassed 8.7 million copies sold through one-time purchases.

According to the source, while there are signs of an uptick in sales of the Xbox version following the end of the one-and-a-half-year Game Pass distribution contract, it is still too early to determine the trend. Additionally, France, the game’s country of origin, ranks third as a sales market for this title on both Steam and PlayStation.

"Elden Ring," "BG3," and "Astrobot" Are Also Award-Winning Titles That Continue to Sell

The article also presents sales volume and revenue estimates for past Game of the Year (GOTY) winners.

The 2022 winner, *Elden Ring*, has sold a cumulative total of 36.4 million copies and generated $2 billion in revenue. Since the start of this year, it has sold approximately 2 million copies and generated approximately $110 million in revenue. It appears to be continuing to attract new players even years after its release.

The 2023 winner, *Baldur’s Gate 3*, is estimated to have sold a cumulative total of 23.2 million copies and generated over $1.2 billion in revenue.Steam accounts for about 80 percent of its sales, and its monthly active user count has never fallen below 2 million; reportedly, 2.2 million people played the game last month.

The 2024 award-winning title, *Astrobot*, has sold a cumulative total of 4.7 million copies, with revenue of $291 million. It consistently sells over 100,000 copies per month and has reportedly sold approximately 1 million copies this year alone.Furthermore, physical copies account for 46.6% of total sales; Mr. Elliott attributes this to gift-giving demand from families and the collectible appeal for PlayStation fans.

Even as new titles continue to flood the market, this Game of the Year winner remains a long-lasting favorite that continues to sell well. With *Grand Theft Auto VI* also eligible for consideration this year, fierce competition is expected. It will be interesting to see which title takes home the crown and continues to enjoy long-term support.
