This time, I’m playing *Blood Lilies: Don’t Let the Serial Killer Get Caught Between the Lilies*, a PC title released by Sounding Stone and MaouCat Studio! This B-movie-style horror mystery adventure game follows Lili, a wealthy college student, as she gets caught up in a murder case while on a trip with Suu, the girl she has a crush on.

The phrase “getting caught between yuri” is an internet meme-like expression used when a male character intrudes on a romantic relationship depicted in yuri works—stories featuring romantic relationships between women. I think the acceptable limits vary from person to person—some might say, “It’s a deal-breaker just for a male character to appear,” while others might think, “It’s okay as long as he’s punished for appearing.”

Personally, I might just let it slide if the result of trying to get close to a yuri couple is losing your balls due to some mysterious force.

◆ A Serial Killer Strikes During a Yuri Trip!

Having heard the legend that “if you invite the person you like to Koibito-ga-take, you’ll become a couple,” Lili invited Sui, the girl she has a crush on, and headed to a certain inn. Little did they know they’d be caught up in a gruesome murder case unfolding there…

Here’s a list of the characters who appear. Wait, this is just like those detective manga where a “X” mark gets placed next to each character as they’re killed off as the story progresses!

By the way, the reason the characters other than the main characters, Lili and Sui, are drawn as pitch-black silhouettes isn’t because they haven’t appeared yet—it’s because they’re potential suspects.

That said, since their hair is clearly drawn, the culprit’s identity will probably be a total giveaway.

Upon arriving at the inn, they were shown to their room by the landlady and manager, who introduced themselves with uncharacteristic formality.

It’s a slightly odd inn, but once in the room, a sweet, intimate atmosphere should have settled between Lili and Sui… or so it should have been. Sui pulls a doll out of her bag and introduces it as “my big sister.” Lili doesn’t know how to react and finds the whole thing a bit creepy.

When they went to the banquet hall, they found another couple staying there—a smooth-talking guy and a “gal.” His name is Chaya Rao, and given his personality—immediately hitting on Lili and her friends—he’s a hopeless player.

It’s a classic trope for these kinds of sleazy couples to get attacked and killed while they’re making out. The more annoyingly they hassle the protagonists, the more death flags pile up. I hope they manage to survive.

And as for his girlfriend, the “gal”… just when I thought that, it turns out that gal—Aki—was actually Lili’s friend. The “friend you run into by chance” trope is another classic example of a character who often dies in detective manga. Since she isn’t a main character, it won’t have a major impact on the story going forward, but it sets the stage for a shocking plot twist where someone close to the protagonist dies.

However, Aki isn’t just some friend who popped up out of nowhere—she was a character from a previous work by Sounding Stone. Hmm, in that case, her chances of dying seem pretty low.

And the last guest is Yasu, a mysterious man. He’s acting suspicious, muttering things that seem to hold hidden meaning. His name is Yasu, too—he’s definitely a suspect rather than a victim. Though nothing has actually happened yet.

Between the flashy couple and the mysterious figure, everyone here seems like they’re setting themselves up for death. What about someone like me? I’ve got a mohawk, I often wear shirts with weird patterns, and I’m a bit of a scaredy-cat. In other words…

This is it!

After finishing my conversations with all the characters, Sui went to buy a drink from the vending machine right outside the room, but she hasn’t come back yet. It turns out the forest next to this inn is actually a famous spot for suicides.

At this point, options like “Go look for Sui” and “Wait until she comes back” appear. Choose the wrong one, and you’re headed straight for a bad ending.

If you choose the correct option, the story progresses, and Aki joins your party. Once she joins, she’s removed from the list of suspects, so perhaps that’s why her silhouette disappears.

From here on, you’ll proceed by exploring the inn to find suspicious items and questioning guests and inn staff.

As you explore, the existence of a serial killer linked to the forest gradually comes to light. And there’s a possibility that Sui has been caught up in this case as well… Will you be able to rescue Sui safely?

Will you be able to find the real culprit? Will the playboy—whose very existence seems like a death flag—manage to survive?

If I were staying at this inn, I’d probably get killed before Suu did.

I was able to finish it in about four hours.

There aren’t many difficult puzzle elements, so I was able to breeze through the story. The exploration sections are also thoughtfully designed, with locations to investigate and collectible items clearly marked. I also appreciated that a save screen pops up before important choices.

As mentioned earlier, characters from previous games make appearances, so playing those first would likely make this one even more enjoyable. I haven’t played the other titles, but I didn’t have any trouble following the story.

There are plenty of parodies of manga and other media, and the overall tone leans toward comedy—I enjoyed it right up to the very end!

"Blood Lilies: Don’t Let the Serial Killer Get Caught Between the Lilies" is currently available on PC (Steam).
