Novemtails has launched Early Access for “Under Canopies,” a laid-back survival sim set in the great outdoors.
No combat, no hunting—just enjoy life in a peaceful forest
This is a laid-back, first-person survival crafting game where you build your own life in a peaceful forest. You can explore various parts of the forest while building a cabin from scratch, growing crops, and cooking meals. You can also take photos of wildlife and gradually earn the trust of the animals.
While survival elements such as hunger, thirst, stamina, and temperature are present, this is by no means a hardcore survival game. There is no combat, no hunting, no killing of animals, and the player cannot die.The developer stated, “We wanted to create a game where you can enjoy life in nature without constantly worrying about danger,” making this a title you can enjoy at your own pace.
Photo Lab, Canoe, Underground Biome, and More—Roadmap Revealed
To coincide with the Early Access launch, a roadmap leading up to the official release has also been unveiled. The planned updates are as follows:
Photo Lab, Companions, and Canoes: New features to enhance the photography experience, new companions, and the ability to explore the forest by canoe
Food Preservation & Cooking Content Update: You’ll be able to use the ingredients you’ve grown or gathered in even more ways
Underground Biome & Story Conclusion: Explore a new underground area and witness the conclusion of the forest’s story
Version 1.0: Official Release

Four Years of Development Spent with Nine Cats
The developer, Roberto, is an independent developer from Mexico who has been learning how to make games for about 12 years. While he has previously been involved in game development and releases as part of a team, *Under Canopies* is reportedly the first commercial game he has developed and released entirely on his own.
The project, which began about four years ago as a small personal project, has reportedly grown far beyond what he initially imagined. During development, he shared his workspace with nine cats.
He commented, “Making my own game has been a dream of mine ever since I first started learning game development. And today, that dream has finally come true.” He also sent a message to players, saying, “I hope you all have a wonderful time in the forest.”
*Under Canopies* is currently available in Early Access on Steam. It is 25% off through November 7.
