On October 23, 2026, G-Mode announced that the release date for the mystery adventure game *Portopia Serial Murders: The Burial of Oblivion* for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam has been set for March 4, 2027, and has begun accepting pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch / Nintendo Switch 2 physical editions.
This title is a completely new game that combines a full remake of *The Portopia Serial Murders*, which was released for PC in 1983 and for the Famicom in 1985, with a significant amount of new story content.Yuji Horii serves as the original creator and executive producer. Set in 1980s Kobe, the game is structured around five investigation files, each told from a different perspective, as players unravel the secrets hidden behind the cases.
The staff includes Shinya Kiyozuka for music and Kyoji Asano (WIT STUDIO) for character design.Planning and production are handled by ORION PROJECT, while development is led by room6 and Game Studio. The game was announced during the “Nintendo Direct 2026.9.9” stream on September 9, 2026, and a playable demo was showcased at the G-Mode booth during the Tokyo Game Show 2026 that same September.
Boxed Edition Includes the Famicom Version of *The Portopia Serial Murder Case*
The physical editions of *Portopia Serial Murder Case* for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 (both Standard and Limited Editions) will include the Famicom version of the game. It is included via a multi-application card stored within the cartridge, allowing players to compare the Famicom version and the remake side-by-side while playing on the Nintendo Switch.

Please note, however, that the Famicom version cannot be played on the download version or the Steam version. The ability to compare the classic pixel art with the modern redrawn visuals on the same hardware is a unique benefit of the physical edition.
First Look at the Newly Commissioned Package Art by Kyoji Asano
To coincide with this announcement, a newly drawn package illustration by character designer Kyoji Asano has also been unveiled. Set against the night view of Kobe, the composition features Yasu and Fumie—familiar characters from *The Portopia Serial Murders*—surrounded by characters from the five newly added investigation files.
Asano is an animator who has served as character designer for *Attack on Titan* and *PSYCHO-PASS*, and as chief animation director for *SPY×FAMILY*; he also serves as a director at WIT STUDIO.Attention is also focused on how the characters—who were pixel art in the Famicom version—have been redrawn.

The limited edition includes an A5 booklet and a soundtrack CD
The limited edition includes two items: an A5-sized booklet and an original soundtrack CD. Details regarding each bonus item will be announced at a later date.

Additionally, customers who pre-order at participating retailers will receive store-specific bonuses on a first-come, first-served basis, and a deluxe edition with special bonuses is scheduled for release via the G-Mode official online store. It has also been announced that a version with bonuses included with a Steam code will be available, though the contents and pre-order start dates for all of these have not yet been revealed.
