Square Enix released *Final Fantasy Resonance* today, October 22, for PC (Microsoft Store), Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S (the Steam version will be released on October 23).

“What if ‘FF’ had evolved while staying in pixel art?”… A classic RPG centered on crystals

Developed under the concept of “What if *FINAL FANTASY* had evolved while retaining its pixel art style…?”, this RPG marks the first HD-2D title in the *FF* series. It has been reimagined as a one-time purchase RPG based on the story of *Final Fantasy Brave Exvius* (FFBE) Season 1.

Set in a world thriving thanks to the blessings of crystals, Rain, captain of an airship squadron; Raswell, her childhood friend and a knight; and Fina, a girl who has lost her memory, must stand up to the “Six Great Allies of Paradia,” who seek to destroy the crystals.Battles are turn-based command battles where you “break” enemies to immobilize them, and you develop your characters by combining “Visions” featuring characters from past *Final Fantasy* titles.

Metascore of 86! Scored a 9 in the Game*Spark review

As of this writing, the PS5 version has a Metascore of 86 (47 reviews), the PC version has 83 (19 reviews), and the Nintendo Switch 2 version has 82 (34 reviews) on Metacritic.

The Game*Spark review awarded the game a score of 9. “The HD-2D world that carries on the series’ tradition and the strategic depth born from free character builds. It offers more than just nostalgia—it delivers the satisfaction of a new adventure.” The review highly praised the command-based battle system, where players strategize the order of attacks to break through enemy defenses, as well as the system that allows for free customization of character development and combat styles through Vision combinations.

Overseas media have also praised the game, with HardZone (100 points) stating, “It brings together all the elements I love about this series into one wonderful adventure,” and Wccftech (95 points) noting, “It’s more than qualified to serve as a fresh start for the entire franchise.”
