Bandai Namco Entertainment announced via its official Japanese X account that it plans to release an update in early 2027 to lift restrictions on blood and gore in the Japanese version of the action RPG *The Blood of Dawnwalker*, developed by Rebel Wolves, for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions.
The Steam version is scheduled to have these restrictions lifted in Update 1.1
This open-world dark fantasy action RPG was released on September 3. The story follows “Cohen,” who lives as a human by day and a vampire by night, as he fights to save his family.

Immediately after its release, players pointed out that the Japanese version of the game featured restricted depictions of blood and gore. They argued that the restrictions were too severe, detracting from the gameplay and narrative experience, and noted that the Steam version was subject to the same restrictions as the console versions.
On September 4, the official Japanese X account posted a message from Rebel Wolves announcing that they are investigating the matter with the aim of lifting the restrictions.
Following these developments, Update 1.1—announced on October 16 as “scheduled for release next week”—included the removal of restrictions on blood and gore in the Japanese Steam version.
Lifting of Restrictions on Console Versions Also Announced
While the announcement regarding the aforementioned Update 1.1 came from the game’s official international X account, today, October 20, the official Japanese X account also announced—in response to player feedback—that it would “adjust blood and gore depictions” in the Steam version.
Furthermore, it was revealed that a “similar update” is scheduled for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S console versions in early 2027.
Details regarding the update’s contents and release timing will be announced closer to the release date.
"The Blood of Dawnwalker" is currently available for PS5, XBOX Series X|S, and Windows (Steam and Microsoft Store). It is also available internationally on GOG.com.
