Here are the Game*Spark editorial team’s top indie game picks for the second week of October!

This week’s picks include “Kimatari Online,” a multiplayer horror game for up to 8 players where you take on the role of a streamer filming supernatural phenomena in a school at night; “Laica,” a survival horror adventure where you live with a beautiful girl while repeatedly exploring a world haunted by monstrous beings;and “Direland,” a top-down sandbox survival-crafting game where you battle giant creatures in a voxel world.

Kimatari Online

This online multiplayer horror game lets 4 to 8 players infiltrate a school at night to film supernatural phenomena and build excitement for their “courage test” livestreams. The setting is a Showa-era middle school where time has stood still since the day of a certain accident. Players take on the role of streamers, exploring the dark school building and capturing the supernatural phenomena they encounter on camera, all while aiming to increase their viewership and subscriber count.

During exploration, your viewership increases as you discover and film supernatural phenomena or escape dangerous situations. At the end of the round, you earn subscribers based on your final concurrent viewership count and channel subscription rate.

However, a “Traitor”—a traitor possessed by a ghost—has infiltrated your group. The Traitor can move through walls and disrupt your livestream by setting traps and carrying out various acts of sabotage.

Laica

Set in a residential facility floating in outer space, this first-person survival horror adventure game involves living alongside a mysterious girl and repeatedly exploring a world roamed by monstrous beings.

The player wakes up in the space habitat “HOME” and meets Laica, a girl living there alone. While spending your days enjoying meals, conversations, and music—and sometimes drifting together in zero gravity—an anomaly that is consuming the universe itself is spreading beyond the facility.

The game progresses by alternating between segments spent living with Laika and segments spent exploring dangerous areas where monstrous creatures roam. During exploration, you navigate the interior of the transformed space facility, collecting items while confronting unknown threats.

Meanwhile, when you return to HOME, you can gradually grow closer to Laika through conversations and various events. However, as you continue your explorations, the anomaly begins to encroach on what should be a safe daily life, eventually affecting Laika herself.Toward the end of the story, the ending will change depending on what the player believes and the choices they make, so it seems you’ll have to make repeated decisions based on the information gathered during your explorations.

Direland

Set in a vast open world, this sandbox-style survival RPG lets you enjoy exploration, combat, crafting, farming, and building. Players wake up in an unfamiliar room in a distant land, unable to remember who they are, and step out into the outside world with only the bare minimum of supplies needed to survive.

In the game, you can build your own base by digging into the ground to reshape the terrain and gathering materials to stack blocks. Character creation is also supported, allowing you to customize your appearance by selecting facial features, hairstyles, and colors.

Using collected ores and items dropped by monsters, you can craft equipment such as weapons and armor, and develop your character through combat with enemies and leveling up. Furthermore, giant monsters roam the field, and their powerful attacks can even alter the surrounding terrain.
