3rd Place—“Never Be Alone,” a New Zombie Survival Game Supporting Unlimited Co-op Multiplayer, Is Drawing Attention
Every week, the Game*Spark editorial team presents “Don’t Miss These If You’re a Core Gamer! This Week’s Top 3 Indie Picks,” featuring indie games they recommend. This week’s selection includes the new open-world zombie survival game “Never Be Alone,” which supports co-op play.
*Never Be Alone* is an open-world zombie survival game set in a world 10 years after a zombie outbreak. As you explore ruins overgrown with nature, forests, farms, and military facilities, you’ll battle infected creatures and hostile human factions to maintain your safe zone.

The protagonist is a character who has awakened from a six-month coma and must survive in this dangerous world while uncovering the truth about their past. In addition to solo play, the game supports seamless online co-op for as many players as the host’s PC can handle.
The game offers survival elements beyond just exploration and combat, including resource gathering, crafting, base building, farming, hunting, and fishing. Additionally, visibility, combat, and missions change depending on the weather and time of day. Supplies are physically placed in the world on shelves, in containers, and other locations, and a dedicated animation plays when you open a container.Set across three islands, the game features over 30 main missions and includes more than 1,000 voice lines. Dialogue, character reactions, and mission outcomes are said to vary based on the player’s choices, mission success or failure, rescued survivors, weather, and time of day.

The game is scheduled for release following an Early Access period, during which the developers plan to incorporate community feedback to expand the story, locations, enemies, items, and survival systems.According to the developers, the game has surpassed 185,000 wishlist entries, and a demo is scheduled to be released in conjunction with the Steam Next Fest, which will take place at 2:00 a.m. JST on October 20.

“Never Be Alone” will support Japanese during Early Access, which is scheduled to begin on December 8, 2026.
2nd Place—“Minecraft” to Add “The Sift,” Its First New Dimension in 14 Years, to the Main Game in 2027
During “Minecraft LIVE,” streamed on September 27, 2026 (Japan Time), Mojang Studios announced that the new dimension “The Sift” will be added to the Java Edition and Bedrock Edition of *Minecraft* in 2027.
The Sift will be the fourth dimension, following the Overworld, the Nether, and The End, marking the first addition of a new dimension in over 14 years. Originally announced as a new dimension for *Minecraft Dungeons II*, it was revealed this time that it will be implemented not only in the spin-off but also in the main series.

The next game drop (update) will introduce a new cave biome called “Ice Caves.” In addition to ice and calcite, new blocks—“icicles” and “ice crystals”—will generate, and dangerous icicles that fall when exposed to strong light will also appear.A new mob, the “Frozen Zombie” (official name TBD), will also make its debut; players hit by this mob will be afflicted with a freeze effect.

"Minecraft" for the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on October 27 and will support "Vibrant Visuals."Additionally, the London theme park area “Minecraft World” is scheduled to open in 2027 and will feature attractions such as “Escape the Nether,” the world’s first *Minecraft* roller coaster.
#1—Interview with the Development Team of “Bellwright,” a Medieval Survival Game Where You Lead a Rebellion
“Bellwright” is a medieval open-world survival game where villagers act of their own free will—working, fleeing, and sometimes betraying the player—even when the player isn’t looking. The protagonist, falsely accused of killing the prince, leads a rebellion to liberate his homeland, Calvenia.
The game’s appeal lies in its design that seamlessly blends management and combat: the economic power gained by developing settlements directly translates into combat strength, while the “fame” earned through battle enables further expansion of those settlements. The original article features an interview with Donkey Crew, the game’s developers.

The NPC AI is quite complex, and the world is fully simulated. Even when the player isn’t present, all characters—including bandits and neutral villagers—continue their daily lives, gathering resources, managing production, and defending the settlement according to a clear priority system. In the early stages, the player handles survival tasks themselves, but as they build a village and hire residents, they can delegate daily production tasks.

The story is currently being reworked, and the plan is to add quests featuring higher-level storytelling and interactions with characters in the future. The development team reportedly feels that what they’ve shown so far is less than half of what they want to present.

The main focus of the next update is on “horses,” including elements such as cavalry and logistics. No specific release date has been announced; instead, the team plans to gradually move toward the official release through major updates two to three times a year.
