The Nintendo Switch 2 version of *Resident Evil RE:4* was released on October 16, 2026. The international YouTube channel “ElAnalistaDeBits” has posted a video comparing the Switch 2 and PS5 versions of the game.
Are there differences in visual quality? The Switch 2 version appears to offer smooth performance as well
The video compares the Switch 2 version in both docked and handheld modes alongside the PS5 version. The resolution and frame rates for each are shown as follows:

PS5 version: Upscaled to 2160p, up to 60 fps
Switch 2 version (Docked mode): Upscaled to 1080p, up to 60 fps
Switch 2 version (Handheld mode): Upscaled to 1080p, up to 60 fps
The comparison video allows you to examine character models, textures, shadows, and vegetation side by side. While there are noticeable differences from the PS5 version in details such as the rendering of leaves, the Switch 2 version still appears to preserve the game’s atmosphere.

As for the frame rate—a key concern—the Switch 2 version generally hovers around the 50 fps range. While it stabilizes near 60 fps in some scenes, it can drop to the 40 fps range during combat and other intense moments. Although it doesn’t maintain a constant 60 fps, the footage suggests it runs fairly smoothly overall.

Additionally, the tech media outlet Digital Foundry has published a technical analysis of the Switch 2 version. According to the outlet, the Switch 2 version’s visual presentation is closer to the PS4 version than the PS5 version, with omissions such as shadows and reflections from certain light sources, as well as a reduction in vegetation density. On the other hand, it notes that the texture detail surpasses that of the PS4 version.
Regarding performance, in Dock Mode, the game reaches 60 fps in less demanding scenes, while in more demanding scenes or intense combat, it drops to the 40–50 fps range. In Handheld Mode, it typically runs at around 40–50 fps. Although there are some compromises in image quality and performance stability, they praise it as a viable option for playing this iconic title in the series.
“ElAnalistaDeBits” has also released a comparison video between the Switch 2 version of *Resident Evil RE:2*, which launched on the same day, and the PS5 version. If you’re curious about the visuals and performance of this version, be sure to check it out as well.
