Game creator Kotaro Uchikoshi, known for titles such as *Ever17*, *Extreme Escape*, and the *AI: Somnium Files* series, announced on October 15, 2026, that he had established his own development studio, “CRASH KEYS.”

As previously reported, he has established the studio; however, he also revealed on his X account that he remains affiliated with Tookyo Games, his former employer, and that he has not fallen out with Kazutake Kodaka, the company’s representative and creator of *Danganronpa* and other titles.

He also noted that the decision to halt development of the new title was partly due to the inability to reduce costs through AI

Kotaro Uchikoshi

Mr. Uchikoshi cites “AI” as one of the reasons why the game currently in production was canceled.

According to him, while “mid-sized game developers are under pressure to cut costs,” if AI had been available, they might have been able to shorten the production period while maintaining staff levels by delegating tedious tasks to AI. However, he noted, “The current trend is that using AI in game development is considered taboo, isn’t it…? Unfortunately, under these circumstances, defeat is inevitable,” he said, adding that “the fact that AI isn’t being used could lead to developers losing their jobs.”

Regarding this matter, Mr. Odaka also responded to Mr. Uchikoshi’s English-language account. Mr. Odaka stated, “I’m rooting for you! I’ll support you too!” and called on users to show their support as well.

Logo for the new studio “CRASH KEYS”

The logo for the new studio “CRASH KEYS” was also unveiled. The studio’s tagline is as follows:

There are doors that won’t open unless you use a broken key

All creation begins with destruction.
Shatter the old key you’ve been clutching. A world you’ve never seen before lies beyond.
CRASH KEYS breaks the mold and unlocks the door to the unknown.

The studio plans to announce its future projects as preparations are finalized and is currently seeking investment partners to take on these challenges together. Inquiries should be submitted via the “CONTACT” section on the official website.
