"Tales of Eternia Remastered" has been released, with a Metascore of 76. Some reviews note that "while the story and characters are still strong, the game is too basic by today's standards."

Bandai Namco Entertainment has released *Tales of Eternia Remastered* for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch (the Steam version is scheduled for release on October 16).A launch trailer has also been released.

An update has also been released immediately.

This title is a remaster based on the PSP version of *Tales of Eternia*, which was released in 2005.Set in “Eternia”—a world where the two realms of Inferia and Celestia face each other across the sky—the game unfolds as a grand journey woven by a cast of unique characters. Convenient features to support gameplay have been added, including destination icons, a high-speed mode for auto-battles, and a boost function.

You can also choose between two in-game font styles: “Remaster” and “Classic.” An update enabling this feature was released simultaneously with the main game.

Metacritic Metascore: 76

As of the time of writing (October 15, 2:50 a.m.), the PS5 version has a Metacritic Metascore of 76 (based on 9 reviews). (The PS4, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch versions do not meet the minimum review count required for a Metascore.)

Noisy Pixel: 85/100 (PC)

*Tales of Eternia Remastered* is a powerful revival of one of the series’ most captivating 2D adventures. Its polished real-time combat, compelling main characters, brisk pacing, and surprisingly deep Kremer Cage system remain excellent, and the addition of thoughtful quality-of-life features makes for a more accessible experience for modern players. While inconsistent minigames, lackluster town designs, and a progression system that occasionally feels passive prevent it from reaching the very pinnacle of the franchise, *Eternia* remains an excellent example of what made the classic *Tales* series so special.

DualShockers: 80/100 (PC)

There’s a reason *Tales of Eternia* remains a fan favorite. The characters are top-notch, the combat system was ahead of its time, and some of the newly added elements laid the groundwork for the series’ modern entries. However, that’s largely just nostalgia speaking, and we all know how much that’s worth. Strip away all that sentimental attachment, and this game—both for the *Tales* series and the JRPG genre as a whole—struggles to appeal to new players. It was wonderful to take a trip down memory lane with a game I played for the first time in 20 years, but I don’t know if today’s players will view this title through the same nostalgic lens that I do.

Video Chums: 75/100

*Tales of Eternia Remastered* is a fun action RPG firmly rooted in the early 2000s, and as such, it comes with a certain degree of datedness. However, the story, characters, and generally enjoyable combat system make it a worthwhile experience—especially for *Tales* fans.

Push Square: 70/100

The emotionally rich characters and story of *Tales of Eternia* still stand the test of time, and thanks to the revamped localization in this remaster, they shine brighter than ever. And while the combat system is slightly behind the times, a host of new accessibility features play a major role in making it more accessible even today. If you approach *Tales of Eternia Remastered* with an open mind and are prepared to appreciate its nostalgic value, this faithful update to a classic PlayStation-era RPG is packed with plenty of endearing elements.

GAMES.CH: 70/100

*Tales of Eternia* has returned as a charming classic JRPG with an engaging story, distinctive characters, and a fast-paced (albeit dated) combat system. While quality-of-life improvements make the experience more comfortable, outdated mechanics and a lack of substantial new content prevent this re-release from feeling truly fresh.

Multiplayer.it: 65/100

Despite the distinct differences between characters and their unique combat traits, *Tales of Eternia* remains a fairly basic JRPG in terms of gameplay. It is the true predecessor to the series as we know it today and can be considered a landmark case study within the franchise. For this reason, it’s difficult to recommend this title to players seeking games in the modern JRPG scene. The genre currently boasts outstanding titles of the caliber of *The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 2nd*, *Fire Emblem: Fates*, or *Final Fantasy Resonance*.While its affordable price point makes it an attractive option, this title is primarily recommended for those who wish to rediscover the roots of this Bandai Namco series—and in doing so, it’s essential to fully acknowledge its considerable age.

While the story, characters, and the game’s pioneering nature at the time are highly praised, it still bears the distinct marks of the 2000s, and there are notable criticisms that it feels too basic when compared to modern JRPG standards.

*Tales of Eternia Remaster* is now available for PS5/PS4, XBOX Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch. It is scheduled for release on Windows (Steam) on October 16.
