For horror fans, a terrifying experience is something that enriches the soul. And for gamers, farming sims are a soothing respite from the rigors of gaming life. So, if those two were to combine, wouldn’t that completely quench and satisfy the parched souls of horror gamers?
“Grave Seasons,” a werewolf horror × farming sim showcased at the Tokyo Game Show 2026, was a title that fused a claustrophobic and eerie horror-suspense atmosphere with an idyllic, rustic “slow life” all within the single setting of a “rural town.”
In this article, I’ll introduce the game by focusing on the two main appeals I experienced during my hands-on demo at TGS: “village horror” and “slow life.”
A “Leisurely” Werewolf × Farming Sim Where You Can’t Trust Anyone
“Grave Seasons” is set in “Ashenridge,” a simple rural town. Players take on the role of an escaped convict hiding their identity, seeking refuge at a dilapidated farm in Ashenridge.
However, just as you’re about to begin a secluded life in this peaceful rural town, you find yourself caught up in a mysterious murder case. To protect the peace you’ve finally found, you’ll have to investigate the truth behind the incident while interacting with a diverse group of townspeople—so diverse that you won’t know who to trust.
This game is a farming sim centered around “werewolf game”-style mechanics. As a result, interacting with the townspeople is crucial. Since the player is a drifter of unknown background, they must earn the trust of the townspeople in everything they do.
For example, during the demo, while receiving a helpful tutorial from a townsperson named “Hari,” she gives you a suspicious look and asks, “Why on earth did you come to a farm? You don’t look like the type to tinker with crops…” The atmosphere is that of a quintessentially insular rural town, which really gets a horror fan’s heart racing.

Side quests are key to earning the townspeople’s trust. Complete their requests through farming, fishing, or mining—activities familiar from farming sims—to successfully build relationships with them. Once your farming life gets on track, you’ll be able to fully enjoy an idyllic rural lifestyle.
As you grow closer to the townspeople, you may even uncover clues about the incidents unfolding in town. Your investigation progresses through your interactions with them. On the other hand, the investigation may require forceful methods—such as breaking into townspeople’s homes—so choosing which residents to build relationships with will be crucial.

Romance with Diverse Gender Expressions—Even with a Serial Killer
Furthermore, following in the footsteps of games like *Stadue Valley*, this title allows for romance with townspeople—including the real culprit. While romance elements aren’t particularly rare in farming sims, the game’s appeal lies, above all, in the diverse graphics and gender expressions of its characters.
Each townsperson has pronouns assigned to them that define their identity. For example, characters who identify as male use “he/him,” those who identify as female use “she/her,” and those who identify as non-binary* use “they/them.”Gender expressions such as pronouns are used as elements that represent each character’s unique identity.
*A gender identity that is neither the sex assigned at birth nor aligned with either the male or female gender.

These gender expressions are also reflected in the townspeople’s appearances—that is, in their graphics. While there are broad categories of fashion, such as masculine and feminine styles, some non-binary characters wear feminine clothing and vice versa, meaning each character expresses their gender in their own unique way.
Every resident is depicted as unique and charming, so players are sure to find a character they like. Incidentally, the character that caught my attention was “Yuto,” the supermarket clerk. Just the mismatched scene of him—with his white hair and sunglasses, clearly hinting at a shadowy past—cleaning in the corner of the produce section is enough to make me curious beyond belief.

Additionally, when it comes to the player avatar, you can flexibly customize character creation, including pronoun settings and appearance. Regarding pronouns in particular, in addition to the options mentioned earlier, you can make fine adjustments such as using “ze/zem” or “it,” allowing you to better reflect your personal preferences. You can create a character that matches your own personality to fully immerse yourself in the game, or you can create a character completely different from yourself and play as if you were reading a story.
However, even as you enjoy the slow pace of life and interact with the townspeople, the true culprit continues to commit murders one after another. It appears the killer targets townspeople at each change of season, so the real test of your skill lies in whether you can prevent the murders before they happen. And behind the scenes, the darkness lurking beneath Ashenridge—a town that was supposed to be just a quiet rural community—begins to stir… You’ll be able to enjoy the thrill of balancing a peaceful life with a tense investigation all at once.
“Grave Seasons” is scheduled for release on March 10, 2027, for PC (Steam), PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S.
