Team17 announced during the “Triple-i Initiative Showcase,” which aired on October 9 at 1:00 a.m., that its new title, *The Escapists 3*, will be released in 2027.
A comical prison life depicted in 3D for the first time in the series
This title is a 3D prison sandbox game where you live as an inmate in a prison while aiming to escape.
Since the first game in the *The Escapists* series was released in 2015, it has depicted prison life and prison breaks using 2D pixel art graphics. *The Escapists 2*, released in 2017, supports split-screen and online multiplayer for up to four players.
In this third installment of the series, the graphics have finally been revamped to 3D. With a comical art style, familiar inmates and guards move around in three dimensions.
The game reportedly brings back all the elements fans have come to love in the series. On top of that, the number of prisons has increased, and there’s an even wider variety of weapons to loot or craft, as well as more ridiculous escape methods.
Of course, in your quest for freedom, you mustn’t skip roll call.
Escape via vents, tunnels, wire cutters, and paragliders
The released trailer depicts classic escape methods from the series in 3D, such as crawling through prison vents and digging holes to escape through tunnels.
The trailer also shows four prisoners cutting through a fence with wire cutters to escape, as well as prisoners scrambling to flee while being chased by guards and searchlights. Furthermore, it showcased scenes of prisoners breaking through prison walls and even an aerial escape, taking off from the roof on a paraglider.
*The Escapists 3* is scheduled for release in 2027 on PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
