During the “Triple-i Initiative Showcase,” which aired on October 9 at 1:00 a.m., Kraken Express unveiled a new trailer for “Ashlands,” the first major content update for *Windrose*, and announced that it will be released this winter.

“Ashlands”: A New Biome and a Formidable New Boss Await

This game is a pirate-themed open-world survival crafting game currently in Early Access.

Set in the 1700s, the Golden Age of Piracy, players take on the role of a captain challenging the legendary pirate “Blackbeard” and must survive in an ever-expanding pirate world by mastering soul-lit combat, naval battles, and base building. A key feature is the ability to play either solo or cooperatively with friends.

The newly released trailer not only unveiled the new “Ashlands” biome but also revealed a fearsome new boss. The update will add new main and side missions, new factions, new ships, and formidable new bosses, while also expanding the map to include new areas such as the long-abandoned Spanish colonies.

In addition to upgrades to the combat system, improvements to NPC behavior, and the addition of new ship variations for each faction, certain elements of the game are also scheduled to be revamped.

An overview of the update released in July had already teased that “Ashlands” is a biome marked by the aftermath of a volcanic eruption, and that new base-building parts, decorations, and ship songs would be added. Save data will reportedly be carried over without a wipe.

Surpassed 2 million copies sold within one month of Early Access launch

The game’s Early Access launch date was announced at “The Triple-i Initiative” in April 2026, and it went live on the 14th of that month. It has become a hit, surpassing 2 million copies sold within one month of release. In Japan, Pocketpair Publishing is handling publishing duties.

"Windrose" is currently available in Early Access for PC (Steam/Epic Games Store). It is priced at 3,400 yen, and the major update "Ashlands" is scheduled for release this winter.
