The superhero action game *Marvel's Wolverine*, released for the PS5 on September 15, 2026, is seeing strong sales for its physical edition. According to the international media outlet The Game Business, physical editions account for 35% of global sales, and in Europe, they make up 51% of sales.

The physical edition continues to hold strong globally

“Marvel’s Wolverine” is an action game developed by Insomniac Games—known for “Marvel’s Spider-Man”—and released for the PS5. Players control Wolverine as he unleashes relentless action on his enemies.

The international media outlet The Game Business cited data from the analytics firm Ampere Analysis, reporting that the game sold approximately 2.16 million copies worldwide, with physical copies accounting for 35% of those sales. It also reported, citing data from Games Sales Data, that in Europe, physical copies accounted for 51% of sales, surpassing the share of digital copies (marking a reversal of the trend).

There were also differences in sales ratios within Europe: while approximately two-thirds of *Marvel’s Wolverine* sales in the UK were digital, more than two-thirds of sales in France were physical copies.

Furthermore, the sales ratio for physical copies of PS5 software is high: over 45% of *SILENT HILL: Townfall*’s sales were physical copies, 36% of *The Blood of Dawnwalker*’s sales were physical copies, and 30% of *Onimusha: Way of the Sword*’s sales were physical copies.

A decision has already been made to discontinue physical disc versions for PS games released in January 2028 or later; for full-price PS games, digital versions account for approximately 82% of total sales, while for companies like Capcom, that figure is about 90%.

Given the proportion of physical copies in overseas PS5 sales, the warning recently issued by a former PS executive—who stated, “Even if physical media supporters are a minority, they are the most loyal fans,” and “Disc discontinuation is a blow to the brand”—may indeed have some merit.
