On October 7, independent developer IsaoWorks released "Hex Reverse" for PC (Steam).
The game will be available for free for the first 30 days, after which it will be sold for 300 yen. If you add it to your library now, you’ll be able to keep playing it even after it becomes a paid title.
A territory-control card battle game centered on numerical comparisons. Battle conditions also vary based on skills, special rules, and unique battlefields.
This game combines a territory-control card battle fought on a hexagonal grid with roguelike deck-building.

Battles take place on a 19-square field. Players and opponents take turns placing cards, and each card has a different number on each of its six sides.
Compare the values on the edges adjacent to an opponent’s card; if your value is higher, flip the opponent’s card to your color. The goal is to flip as many cards as possible to your color by reading the placement and the state of the board.

A single run consists of multiple consecutive battles, and each victory rewards you with one card from your opponent’s deck.
Cards also have attributes and skills; by spending SP, you can use skills to strengthen your own cards, change their attributes, or weaken your opponent’s cards. Battle conditions vary depending on special rules and unique boards, so cards that seem strong one moment may not be the best choice the next, ensuring a fresh experience with every run.

Upon completing a run, you return to base. Prepare for your next run by building your deck, buying and selling cards, synthesizing them, and permanently enhancing your equipment. It’s a game cycle where you challenge increasingly difficult otherworlds while strengthening your forces.
“It’s not about letting the AI do everything”
This title discloses the use of generative AI on its Steam store page. ChatGPT was reportedly used for planning, specification development, reviews, and the creation of some graphic assets, while Codex was used for code generation, implementation, and testing support.
Some image assets were created by adjusting AI-generated bases in Photoshop and similar software, while SOUNDRAW was used for some of the background music and ElevenLabs for some of the sound effects. Note that there are no features that use generative AI in real time during gameplay; the developers handle the final design, editing, implementation, and decisions on which assets to include.

Prior to the release, IsaoWorks had begun a series of development diaries on Steam News.
According to the first installment (the full version is available on X), although the developers had experience with web development, Figma, Adobe tools, and DAWs, their experience with the Unity game engine was limited to working through the official tutorials.Consequently, they adopted a system where they handled planning, decision-making, and visual adjustments themselves, while delegating specification definition to ChatGPT and coding to Codex.
However, they state that their basic policy was not to “have the AI create everything,” but rather to distinguish between tasks delegated to the AI and those they handled themselves.

In the second development log (the full version on X), he reflects that he was particularly mindful of “not letting the AI implement features based solely on spontaneous conversation” and “not letting it venture into unnecessary areas.”
They first prepared the game design and, while consulting with ChatGPT, organized the specifications, task lists, and change logs for Codex to reference. The basic workflow was: “Use ChatGPT to organize the next request → Implement with Codex → Verify the results → Test in Unity as needed.”
The series of development logs is scheduled to consist of six installments in total. In addition to covering UI implementation, sound design, trailer production, and preparations for the Steam release, the final installment will serve as a post-development retrospective from Codex’s perspective. Currently, the first two installments have been published.
"Hex Reverse" is now available for PC (Steam). It’s free for 30 days starting from its October 7 release, and if you add it to your Steam library during that period, you’ll be able to continue playing it even after it becomes a paid title. After the free period ends, it will be sold for 300 yen.
