Melt the city with lava, sink it in the sea, then finish with a nuke! “MOLTYN,” a hero sandbox where every pixel obeys physics, gets a free demo today

If you cut a building off at its support pillars, it will collapse immediately. When water and lava come into contact, they produce obsidian and steam.

Hingston Digital, an independent Australian development studio, will release a free demo of its physics sandbox game *MOLTYN* for PC (Steam) starting at 10:00 PM JST on October 6, 2026. The game will also support Japanese.

Rocks, water, and lava—"everything is simulated"! Turn the city itself into your playground

*MOLTYN* is a sandbox game where you become a superhero who wields the Earth’s various forces and freely soars through a world built on physics simulations.

A key feature is that the rocks, sand, water, lava, steam, ice, and metal on the screen aren’t just background elements—they’re simulated as actual materials. These materials flow, burn, freeze, melt, crack, and—depending on the conditions—collapse entirely.

For example, if you send lava from a volcano into the city, it will flow down the slope and invade the urban area. If you flood the streets, the water will seep into the upper floors of buildings, and if you cut through a building’s support pillars with a laser, the structurally compromised structure will collapse into rubble.

Furthermore, the abilities interact with one another—for instance, when water and lava come into contact, they produce obsidian and steam. You can also pick up broken objects and hurl them at targets.

The abilities available to the player include lasers, gravity, water, lava, storms, freezing, and nuclear powers. Whether you’re freezing the ocean itself, flooding a city, or blowing holes in mountains, you’ll enjoy a level of destruction that makes you feel less like a superhero and more like a natural disaster itself.

Monster invasions and battles against yourself! Story missions included

In the free demo, you can enjoy free-form destruction set on a volcanic island and the city built on its slopes, and it also includes story missions.

Missions include battling enemies in the harbor district, fighting a giant monster attacking the city, facing off against “SHADOW MOLTYN”—who possesses the same powers as you—and protecting the city from a meteor shower.

At the end of each mission, you’ll be evaluated on “how much of the city remains.” It’s entirely possible that even if you succeed in defeating the enemies, the city you were supposed to save could be completely obliterated, leaving no trace behind.

On the other hand, the sandbox mode has no time limits or game overs. You can toggle enemy spawns on and off, and since you can respawn even after being defeated, you can enjoy pure experimentation and destruction using physics simulations. You can even reset the island itself.

Developed by a single person! Early Access scheduled to begin on November 12

Hingston Digital, the studio behind this title, is a one-person development studio run by Andrew Hingston of Australia. The game is being developed using a proprietary simulation engine, and approximately 3,500 people reportedly participated in the Steam playtest held in September.

The full release is planned to include a total of 18 story missions. The Early Access period, scheduled to begin on November 12, 2026, will feature the first 10 of these missions, along with multiple sandbox worlds and local multiplayer modes.

The game is also scheduled to be featured at “Steam Next Fest,” taking place from October 19 to 26.

“MOLTYN” is currently in development for PC (Steam). A free demo is scheduled to be released on October 6, 2026, at 10:00 PM and will support Japanese. Early Access is scheduled to begin on November 12.
