Independent game developer Kon Notobari has released a demo version of the 2.5D command-based RPG *Hino Kotodzute* on Steam.
A journey woven alternately by two parties and strategic command battles

This story-driven RPG features graphics that combine 3D backgrounds with pixel art. Two parties of three members each set out from the western and eastern cities, respectively, toward the central “Sacred Peak Coral,” with the story unfolding from the perspectives of both parties in alternating chapters.
The story is set in a world where the cycle of souls exists, and where “Fire Mages” live with the mission to protect it. Haku, a Fire Mage living in the westernmost town, sets out on a journey with his best friend Kaji—a demi-human—and Mikoto, a former mafia member.
Meanwhile, Ren, a Fire Mage living in the town at the eastern edge, also sets out for the Sacred Peak Coral alongside her childhood friend Maruka and the mysterious old man Rakan.

In terms of exploration, the game employs a “Keyword System” where players present keywords acquired during their journey to relevant NPCs to advance sub-scenarios. By figuring out which words to say to whom, the background of the world is gradually revealed.

Combat features turn-based command battles with no random encounters. The game incorporates a “Shield System” where the more you reduce the “Shield Power” of both enemies and allies, the easier it becomes to deal damage to their HP; deciding whether to chip away at the shield or directly target HP is key to victory.
Instead of a level-based system, the game features a flexible ability configuration where you allocate “Combat Power” earned as you progress through the scenario, as well as cumulative status effects and equipment customization options. For players who want to focus on the story and exploration, a “Story” difficulty mode is also available, so you can play with peace of mind.
