Independent game developer Isaac MENARD has announced that “Ghost in the SQL Data,” a mystery adventure game he is developing, will be released on Steam on October 29.
Use SQL to collect data and turn it into evidence. A mystery adventure where you can learn SQL

SQL (Structured Query Language) is a language used to retrieve data from “databases,” which are used to store computer data. It is considered an “essential” language for systems engineers and programmers and is widely used in everything from small-scale systems to massive-scale services.

This game is a detective adventure where you make full use of SQL to cross-reference case data and uncover the truth. For example, in the game’s tutorial, you’ll learn basic SQL syntax—such as “SELECT ~ FROM ~ WHERE ~”—by collecting data for a specific day from as many as 2,400 reports.

You can even use SQL to extract a specific number from a phone directory—this is another instance where the WHERE clause comes into play.

To refute a suspect’s testimony, you’ll also be required to extract data that contradicts their statements. This really starts to feel like a detective adventure game.

In the demo version of this game, it was once possible to set database table and column names to Romanized characters, but rest assured that this setting has since been removed, and these names have been standardized to English (which makes sense when considering actual system operations).
"Ghost in the SQL Data" is scheduled for release on October 29 for PC (Steam). A demo version is also available now.
