Developer Isaac MENARD has released a demo version of the mystery deduction game *Ghost in the SQL Data* for PC (Steam).
A Unique Mystery Game Where You Solve Cases Using SQL
This title is a mystery adventure game in which players use SQL, a database query language, to uncover the truth behind a crime.
The first case begins with a single puzzling record: a report that someone had called to report a fire 14 minutes before it actually broke out. Players must use working SQL to prove this contradiction.

This game does not feature traditional mystery game elements such as dialogue choices or lock-picking. You interrogate the evidence by writing a single line of code, and the records provide the answers.
SQL is the language spoken by databases—whether in search boxes, bank statements, or behind the scenes of spreadsheet software—and in this game, it actually works. Rather than relying on keyword matches, the game verifies your answers by comparing the rows you retrieve with the rows returned by the correct solution.

The game is designed so that players can start with absolutely no knowledge of SQL. When an error occurs, instead of simply returning the raw database message, the game translates and explains what is wrong with the line you wrote, underlining the specific part that caused the error.
Each case begins with a briefing before you start, explaining the premise that “the events that occurred are represented by a single row, that row has columns, and those columns are the very targets of the query.” From there, the game is designed to teach SQL itself as you solve the case, introducing one concept at a time at each checkpoint.
The game also emphasizes that the knowledge gained within the game can be directly applied in the real world, as it uses the same syntax as in actual professional settings. You can keep the results you’ve obtained close at hand—by reading them, plotting them on graphs, or pinning them to a wall—while continuing your investigation.
Japanese Language Support!
The game launches in English by default, but you can select Japanese from the options menu.

When I actually tested it, not only were the text in the tutorial and menus localized into Japanese, but the data itself was also displayed in Japanese. In the tutorial, there was a scene where you had to type the following:
SELECT *
FROM shirei_kiroku
WHERE hassei_bi = '2026-10-14'

According to the store page, AI is used for the translation, but it seemed to work without any issues during the tutorial.
"Ghost in the SQL Data" is scheduled for release in October for PC (Steam). A demo version is currently available.
