On September 23, 2026, SHIFT UP announced that the retail version of *Stellar Blade Complete Edition*—scheduled for release on November 6 for the Nintendo Switch 2—will allow players to enable or disable the frame generation feature.
Is frame generation not intended for use when targeting 60 fps? Various opinions were expressed.

A demo for the Switch 2 version of *Stellar Blade* is currently available, and it appears that frame generation was used in that demo to maintain a frame rate of 60 fps.

However, some argue that frame generation technology “isn’t intended to be used with a target of 60 fps in the first place.”For example, the official website for AMD FSR frame generation technology states: “AMD FSR frame generation works most effectively when the pre-interpolation frame rate is at least 60 fps,” and “You should absolutely avoid letting the pre-interpolation frame rate drop below 30 fps.”
According to an interview with SHIFT UP developers conducted by the international media outlet Nintendo Everything, they “achieved consistent latency at 30 fps and used frame interpolation to reach 60 fps”—suggesting this is precisely the scenario described in the frame generation guidelines as one that “should be avoided.”
Stellar Blade's demo is the perfect demonstration to why frame generation from 30 to 60 fps is terrible

On the international forumReddit, opinions included: “This goes against the purpose of frame generation technology,” “One of the main issues is input lag, which is particularly noticeable in games like ‘Stellar Blade,’” and “A large amount of noise appears across the entire screen, especially in handheld mode.”

In response to these reactions, it appears SHIFT UP has decided to include a frame generation disable mode in the full release. While playing with frame generation disabled will likely mean running at 30 fps, this should be welcome news for those seeking stable gameplay.
