The “Tokyo Game Show 2026” (hereinafter “TGS2026”) is being held at Makuhari Messe from September 17 to September 21, 2026.

This marks the first time in history that the event has spanned five days, and with the largest number of exhibitors to date, we’re bringing you a hands-on report on *RuneScape: Dragonwilds*, which is available to play at the Graph booth. We were able to experience this survival crafting game, which officially launched on September 15.

No Skill Allocation Needed! A Survival Game Where Every Aspect of Life Directly Contributes to Your Growth

Carrying on the legacy of the MMORPG *RuneScape*, this game is set on “Ashenfall,” a continent where dragons have awakened. It’s a large-scale survival crafting game where you must survive in a fantastical world filled with magic and dragons, advancing the story as you explore the vast continent.

However, surprisingly (?), what becomes crucial in this game is a down-to-earth lifestyle. Since there are thirst and hunger meters, it’s essential to constantly secure food and drinking water while establishing a base and maintaining your stamina. You’ll craft items from resources scattered across the vast map and from drops obtained by defeating enemies and animals, all while completing quests.

The game also features a system where your skills improve through the accumulation of small actions—such as running through the wilderness, jumping, and defeating enemies—so simply playing straight toward your goals will gradually make your protagonist stronger.

Apparently, absorbing the power of a “Vessel of Blood” makes you “feel healthier.” That’s pretty enviable.

Especially in the early stages, the conditions are set fairly easy, so new spells and actions—like mid-air jumps—unlock naturally without having to go out of your way to level up skills, keeping the experience fresh at all times. Personally, I’m the type who gets overwhelmed by having to allocate skill points in games like this, so I was glad that wasn’t necessary here.

So, after gathering food, gear, and materials, I checked the quests on the map… and that’s when tragedy struck this laid-back writer. It turns out that in this game, the world doesn’t pause while you’re checking the map, so enemies were closing in as usual. With low health, the protagonist met a swift and untimely end…

When you die, you respawn at a bed you’ve placed in a safe spot or at your base—the church. Unfortunately, you drop all the items you were carrying at the time, but your trained skills remain intact. So while there’s the thrill of being defeated, it’s not a completely hopeless situation—which is a relief.

So, as punishment for my carelessness, I had to restart from the very beginning—gathering stones and wood. However, I’ve heard that even these time-consuming early-game tasks can be streamlined or automated through skill progression, so the way you perceive the world and how you spend your time will likely change as you play longer.

I don’t expect much, but it seems you can fight bare-handed even without weapons

Another key feature is the concept of time, which lets you naturally feel the passage of a day. While there were some unexpected incidents—like wandering into a goblin lair while running through the hills and forests in the twilight in search of food—I thoroughly enjoyed my survival adventure in this fantasy world during the demo.

The beautiful sky really brings home the sadness of losing everything

Although this demo was limited to the early stages of the game, the housing elements unique to crafting games were spot on. While the demo at the venue is a solo experience, the full release supports multiplayer, and one of the true joys of survival crafting is being able to have a lively time with friends building houses and more.

“RuneScape: Dragonwilds,” now officially released, is available to play at the Graph booth at Tokyo Game Show 2026. You’ll find us in Hall 7 at [07-C05], where a large sign in Graph’s signature yellow-green color featuring the game’s main visual awaits you.

To ensure you don’t suffer from hunger or thirst like you would in the game, be sure to stay hydrated and well-nourished so you can enjoy the experience to the fullest!
