City Connection announced the mahjong game *Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: Mahjong REMASTER* on September 15, 2026. There is an interesting note on the game’s Steam store page.
Were all the residents of Hinamizawa Village 18 or older!?

"Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: Mahjong" is a mahjong game based on the visual novel "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni" by Ryukishi07. It was released for arcades in 2009 and later for the PSP.In it, the protagonist, Keiichi Maehara, engages in mahjong matches—complete with cheating—against the residents of Hinamizawa Village in an effort to prevent a tragedy.

What’s drawing attention in this title is a single sentence listed in the “Adult Content Description” section of the Steam store page.
*All characters appearing in the game are 18 years of age or older.
At least within the game’s universe, this means that all residents of Hinamizawa Village are 18 or older. Note that this disclaimer is not present in other *Higurashi no Naku Koro ni* series titles available on Steam.

While the game has never featured nudity—not even in the arcade version—this disclaimer may have been included because the bonus content includes swimsuit and cosplay illustrations of characters who appear young.
*Higurashi: When They Cry - Sparrow REMASTER* is scheduled for release in 2027 on PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, and PS5. A playable demo of the game will be available at the City Connection booth (Hall 2, C03) during the Tokyo Game Show 2026, taking place from September 17 to 21.
