"Fire Emblem: A Thousand Flowers" is now available! Four protagonists who hold the fate of the world in their hands aim to win the Great Gladiatorial Tournament—with a Metascore of 89, it’s been praised as “a game on a scale that feels like four games in one.”

Nintendo released the simulation RPG *Fire Emblem: A Blossom of Colors* for the Nintendo Switch 2 today, September 17.

A Story Woven by Four Protagonists

Set in the “Dagza Empire,” a realm thriving under the rule of the gods, this simulation RPG unfolds around the “Great Gladiatorial Festival,” where the winner has one wish granted. The four protagonists enter the tournament guided by their own convictions, and the story unfolds differently depending on which protagonist you choose.

The protagonists are: “Kai,” a boy who resolves to compete to save his imprisoned father; “Dietrich,” a beautiful swordswoman seeking battles against the strongest; “Theodora,” a queen fighting to fulfill her homeland’s long-cherished wish; and “Leda,” a vihuela player who has dedicated her life to revenge.

Furthermore, a “Savior” appears, descending upon a world on the brink of destruction caused by the Demon Lord “Barol.” The story features a structure unique even within the series: by borrowing the power of Photona, the goddess of fate, the Savior travels back in time to the world as it was five years ago to alter the fates of the four protagonists.Past articles on Game*Spark have covered the shocking story that begins with “the deaths of all the protagonists” and the Direct presentation that sparked buzz for its massive spoilers—despite being just a teaser.

Strategic Battles and Free Movement

Battles follow the series’ traditional turn-based simulation RPG format, featuring five weapon types: “sword, spear, axe, bow, and gauntlets.” The weapons a unit can wield vary depending on its class.Furthermore, “Blaze Arts”—powerful moves unleashed by consuming HP—have different effects depending on the protagonist, and as the story progresses, players gain access to even more powerful techniques.

Between matches, you can train with your allies, change classes by passing qualification exams, scout for new recruits in town, and explore dungeons. Deepen your bonds with your allies and enjoy both the story and the battles.

Metascore: 89!

MetacriticAs of this writing, the game has garnered 60 critic reviews and achieved a Metascore of 89. In addition to its massive scale—described as “the equivalent of four games in one” (Loot Level Chill, an independent media outlet)—comments highlight its battle design as “the pinnacle of the genre” and its ambitious scope.

The game’s daily life and time-management elements also appear to be well-received, and its Metascore of 89 ties it with *Fire Emblem: Three Houses* (2019).

Past articles on Game*Spark also cover behind-the-scenes stories revealed in developer interviews—such as the fact that the game was originally planned to feature eight protagonists—so be sure to check those out as well.
