The “Earth Defense Force” series is an action shooter that depicts the battle between the “Earth Defense Force” (EDF) and alien lifeforms that have suddenly invaded Earth. During a live broadcast held at the Tokyo Game Show 2026 venue, a steady stream of new information was announced.
To make the Switch 2 version of “EDF5” more accessible, features introduced in “EDF6”—such as subtitles, damage number displays, and control schemes—have been implemented. This ensures system consistency between the two consecutive titles.Additionally, the system has been updated so that mission progress—which was previously tracked separately for offline and online play—is now synchronized across both modes.
In addition to the existing online co-op mode for up to four players, the game now supports local wireless play. Furthermore, in TV mode, players can enjoy split-screen play for two players simultaneously.
It was also announced that the release date for the Switch 2 version of *Earth Defense Force 6*, originally scheduled for this winter, has been set for January 28, 2027.
