Independent developer Kogiri (kgrdev) has released the 2D fighting game "Kasumindo" on PC (Steam).

Both local and online multiplayer are available.

While competitive games—whether fighting games with their crouching and jumping mechanics or FPS games with their “kicking a downed opponent”—feature numerous forms of taunting, this title is a 2D competitive fighting action game specifically focused on that very concept of “taunting.”

The rules are simple: first, beat your opponent to a pulp, then deliver a “taunt” once they’re down. Physical attack damage doesn’t matter; instead, the game uses a tug-of-war system where the gauge at the top of the screen fluctuates based on the taunts. Controls are simple, consisting of just four buttons: move left, move right, attack, and taunt.

Matches are decided by a best-of-two format, with each round lasting 30 seconds. However, as the end approaches, both fighters are likely to lay down their weapons and simply trade insults… scenes like that are sure to happen.

The game features 14 unique characters, ranging from tsundere-style to “middle-aged guy” and “bossy office lady” types. In addition to differing stats such as movement speed and attack range, each character has their own unique taunts, which are voiced using the text-to-speech software “VOICEVOX.”

The game also features a custom character setup function, allowing players to select their favorite 8 taunts from over 100 options. Online multiplayer supports up to 8 players in the same room and includes a room feature optimized for streaming. The match history screen records the “number of taunts” used.

The game also supports CPU battles and local multiplayer, with three difficulty levels available for the CPU.

"Kasumindo" is currently available for PC (Steam). It is priced at 265 yen, but until September 22, it can be purchased for 159 yen—a 40% discount.
